With demand for the Alto at a low, Maruti plans to expand its market share by leveraging the SUV

India’s largest passenger car maker, Maruti Suzuki, is unwilling to sit idly by as demand for SUVs grows. The Indo-Japanese company is keen to take the country’s passenger car market share from 45 percent to 50 percent. For which we have to rely on the new SUV model. Such models like Brezza, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, XL6 have strengthened the company’s base in the utility car market. They recently launched the Fronx car. Maruti Suzuki Jimny is coming to the market again this month.

Maruti Suzuki is bringing new models to boost SUV sales

Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 46,243 units of utility vehicles in May. Whereas a year ago at that time the sales volume was 28,051 units. The company said it sold a total of 82,997 units of UVs in April and May this year. Which was 61,992 units in the same period of 2022. Maruti Suzuki managed to sell a total of 1,78,083 units last month. Out of which 1,46,596 units were sold in the Indian market and 26,477 units were exported.

Again 5,010 units of vehicles were supplied by them to other manufacturers (eg – Toyota). On the other hand, 83,655 units were sold in the hatchback and compact sedan segments. Which is slightly less than May 2022. However, the biggest decline was in mini car sales (12,326 units). Which includes S-Presso and Alto. Again there was a slight increase in the demand for the compact car segment and the Ciaz sedan.

Maruti Suzuki is launching the 5-door Jimny this month to accelerate SUV sales. It has a 1.5 liter K15B petrol engine. Which can be chosen with manual and automatic gearbox options. The engine will produce 105 bhp of power and 134.2 Nm of torque. The manual and automatic variants will offer mileage of 16.94 km/l and 16.39 km/l respectively on one liter of petrol.
