Last time there was a rush to buy cheap e-scooters, the company saw a 357% increase in sales

The Union Ministry of Heavy Industries has cut the amount of subsidy under the FEM-II scheme. As a result, the price of all electric two-wheelers sold in the country has increased by a maximum of Rs 40,000 from June 1. In May, manufacturers suggested buying electric two-wheelers before June to keep them cheap. As a result, the showrooms became crowded overnight. Many did not want to miss the opportunity to sell electric scooters at low prices for the last time.

And the effect of taking advantage of that opportunity was seen in the sale of Ather Energy in May. The homegrown startup, known for its use of cutting-edge technology, reported sales of a total of 15,256 units of e-scooters last month. Which is the most in a month so far in the company’s history. Compared to May 2022, sales are reported to be 357 percent higher.

Ather sold 15,256 electric scooters in May

Ather Energy’s 450X and 450X electric scooters with Pro Pack are now priced at Rs 1.45 lakh and Rs 1.65 lakh respectively (ex-showroom, Bengaluru) after the subsidy reduction. Now under the FEM-II project, the Center is paying a maximum of Rs 10,000 per kilowatt hour battery or 15 percent of the ex-factory price (whichever is lower). Earlier, a maximum subsidy of Rs 15,000 per kilowatt hour battery or 40 per cent of the ex-factory price (whichever is lower) was given. As a result, the prices of battery-powered scooters and motorcycles have naturally increased since June.

Aether Energy is third in the list of largest electric two-wheeler companies after Ola Electric and TVS. Note that Ether launched their cheapest electric scooter on the first day of June after the government reduced the subsidy. Named – 450S. It will retail at Rs 1,29,999 (ex-showroom price without subsidy). The scooter is claimed to offer a range of 115 km on a full charge. The maximum speed is 90 km per hour.
