Tata vs Maruti, the two companies are fighting for the title of best selling car

In February 2024, India’s passenger vehicle industry saw a deluge of sales. At least that’s what the statistics say. Manufacturers sold a total of 3,30,107 units of new cars in the previous month. In comparison, demand increased by 12.35% as sales volume in February 2023 was 2,93,803 units. Notably, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR regained its title as the country’s best-selling car after a long gap. Maruti sold 19,412 of these cars last month.

Even in the burgeoning SUV market, most people in the country still rely on the hatchback model. The same was seen in the second month of the year. However, Tata Punch grabbed the second place in the list of best selling cars for February. It sold 18,438 units last month. Currently, it is the best selling SUV in the country. The gap between Punch and WagonR is less than 1,000. As a result, the fight between Tata and Maruti has intensified.

The name of Maruti Suzuki Baleno has come up at number three. A total of 17,517 units of this premium hatchback model have been sold. However, there has been a 6% decline in sales this year as it was 18,592 at the same time last year. Maruti Suzuki Dzire is in fourth place. Its sales volume was 15,837 units.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza took the next place. In the previous month, a total of 15,765 customers found the model in their garages. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga came in sixth place. Last month, Maruti was able to hand over the keys of this car to a total of 15,519 buyers. Hyundai Creta has got the seventh place. The model found its way into the garages of 15,276 customers in the previous month.

Mahindra Scorpio comes in eighth place. A total of 15,051 customers purchased the vehicle last month. Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Fronx occupied the ninth and tenth positions in the list respectively. Their sales volume was 14,395 units and 14,168 units respectively.
