Please note that the Asia Cup may start in September and the ICC World Cup in October. In this case, you can download the Disney+Hotstar application on your mobile and watch both the tournaments for free i.e. without any subscription fee. Incidentally, last month, JioCinema offered its viewers the opportunity to watch the ‘Tata IPL 2023’ tournament for free. After which, this streaming platform owned by Mukesh Ambani had a record number of 44.9 crore viewers to watch the match. The move is believed to be inspired by the success of the JioCinema app by Disney+Hotstar.

Disney Plus Hotstar has announced that the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 tournaments will be streamed for free on mobile for Disney Plus Hotstar app users. In this regard, Sajith Sivanandan, head of the video streaming platform said, “Disney Plus Hotstar is leading the fast growing OTT industry in India. We are taking a variety of approaches to provide viewers with a better content viewing experience. Live streaming of Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup will soon be available for free to a large number of viewers, which we believe will help grow our overall eco-system.”
Incidentally, Reliance-owned Viacom 18 took the same step after acquiring the digital streaming rights of ‘Indian Premier League 2023’ in 2023. That is, the platform offered free streaming of the IPL tournament to their mobile subscribers. This move led to a record number of visitors to the JioCinema platform. That may be why Disney Plus Hotstar has decided to show the upcoming two cricket tournaments without subscription fees.
Also, Disney+Hotstar may consider applying such marketing strategies to regain lost ground. In this regard, let it be noted that earlier users had to buy a premium plan worth Rs 299 or more per month to watch live streaming of cricket tournaments or other sports on the said platform.
