Even if the SIM card is not recharged, it will last up to 90 days, this news is becoming increasingly viral on social media. According to multiple reports, this is the new rule of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regarding the validity of SIM cards. According to the new rules issued by TRAI, both new and old SIM cards will be active for up to 90 days without recharging. But this news is not correct. TRAI said this claim is not correct and it has not issued any new rules in this regard.
What did TRAI say about SIM activation?
In a post on X, TRAI confirmed that no new rules have been issued regarding SIM card activation. Apart from this, they also said that the current rules regarding the validity of SIM cards have been in place for 11 years.
In the post, Trai clarified, “As per TCPR (Sixth Amendment), a prepaid user's mobile number cannot be deactivated for 90 days if there is a minimum balance of Rs 20 in the account. This rule of not deactivating a SIM if the minimum balance is maintained is 11 years old. “

Meanwhile, TRAI recently directed all telecom operators to introduce voice and SMS-only plans excluding internet data. Following this directive, Jio, Airtel and Vi have already launched voice only plans. However, these plans did not make customers happy. Because customers thought that cutting data would make it much cheaper to recharge the plans. But in reality, companies have removed data from value plans and launched voice only plans at almost the same price as before.
