There are many smartphones that have two SIM cards each. But currently most people are struggling to keep two SIMs active due to the high cost of recharge. Therefore, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India or TRAI is going to change the urgent rules for their convenience. Under this rule, Jio, Airtel, VI and BSNL will allow SIM activation for just 20 rupees.
As seen, one of the two SIMs acts as the primary SIM, and the other is used in case of emergencies or similar situations. But the second sim has been inactive for months due to cost. TRAI has come up with a new proposal to eliminate this problem. Let us inform you that as per TRAI's customer guidelines, if a SIM card is not used for more than 90 days, it will be considered inactive.
If a SIM is inactive for 90 days and there is some prepaid balance remaining, 20 rupees will be deducted to extend the activation period of the SIM by another 30 days. If the balance is insufficient, the SIM will be deactivated, making it impossible to make or receive calls or use the Internet.
Once deactivated, TRAI will be forced to recycle the number associated with the SIM and make it available to new users. But the good news is, if one forgets their secondary SIM and it remains unused for 90 days, they get a grace period of 15 days to reactivate the SIM.
During this period, users can visit the concerned customer service representative or any company store for quick reactivation of their SIM. When a SIM is declared “non-usage”, it will be defined as a lack of engagement with incoming, outgoing calls, messages, data, or value-added services including payments.
