WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature to block profile picture screenshots
WhatsApp is now in the process of releasing a server-side update that will prevent users of their platform from taking screenshots of other contacts’ profile pictures. As a result, while earlier users could take screenshots of profile images of other people in their contacts, now capturing screenshots will be saved as a blank or black screen on the device. Note that this newly released feature will be enabled by default and there is no way to disable it.
Previously, WhatsApp allowed its users to save profile images. Due to which users’ privacy would be violated. As a result, many users complained about this. In view of which the Meta-owned instant messaging platform has decided to remove the option to save profile pictures.
Let us know, WhatsApp has been working on a feature to block taking profile pictures since last February. A beta version of this feature was released at that time. For which, beta users were shown a warning message when they tried to take a screenshot of a contact’s WhatsApp profile picture. Where an explanation is given as to why screenshots cannot be taken. However, the stable version of the currently rolled out feature does not show any warning messages. Instead as mentioned earlier, a blank screenshot will be saved on the device.
