China’s Dadagiri is over, Ola has started construction of country’s largest EV battery cell manufacturing plant

Currently, Ola Electric, India’s largest manufacturer of electric two-wheelers, is gradually expanding its footprint. This time the company announced laying the first foundation stone of their upcoming gigafactory in the country. This Ola factory will debut as India’s largest cell factory. Later the company is expected to produce new products at this manufacturing unit.

Ola has started construction of its Cell Giga Factory

Ola CEO Bhavish Agarwal posted a few pictures and a video of the foundation stone laying on Twitter and wrote, “We laid the first pillar of our Ola Gigafactory. We are proud and excited about this work. Our team is working to make India the world’s electric vehicle palm.” He wrote to fans, “Thank you for sending so many well wishes. Won’t stop, won’t get tired!”

The Giga Factory will play a significant role in Ola’s electric vehicle journey. Apart from two-wheelers, the company has already started developing electric vehicles. As the next step, Ola wants to immerse itself in making car batteries. Local production of batteries will reduce the cost of electric vehicles in addition to solving supply chain problems.

Ola’s Cell Gigafactory is going to be built on 115 acres of land in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. Where 100 gigawatt hours of production per year has been promised. In the initial phase, the work will start with the generation of 5 GWh. Later it will be increased in various stages. They will develop electric vehicle battery cells that will be used in vehicles as well as batteries used in other fields.

Currently India does not have its own battery cell manufacturing unit. That is why countries like China, Taiwan and South Korea have to be on the lookout. Meanwhile, the Indian government is emphasizing on increasing the use of electric vehicles. Under the PLI scheme various concessions are given from time to time.
