The majority of new cars sold in this country in 2024 will be electric. According to a Reuters report, nine out of ten new cars sold in Norway by 2024 will be battery-powered.
According to data from the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV), 88.9% of new cars sold in 2024 will be electric. That's up from 82.4% in 2023. Which electric car is selling the most in this country? Tesla tops the list of top-selling brands.
Only electric cars in Norway now
The top three electric car brands in this country are – Tesla, Volkswagen and Toyota. Surprisingly, 10 percent of electric cars sold in this country are made in China. “Norway will be the first country in the world to remove gasoline and diesel engine vehicles from the new car market,” said Kristina Bu, head of the Norwegian EV Association.
Notably, Norway itself is an oil producing country. But still the government imposed fine on petrol and diesel vehicles. On the other hand, attractive concessions have been placed on the import of electric vehicles. Norway has adopted several policies to increase the use of electric vehicles.
“Often we see in other countries, someone gives tax incentives or exemptions and then they come back to the same place,” Christina Bu added. He said, “Instead of banning petrol and diesel vehicles, it is also important to have incentives. Because people don't like being told what to do.”
