Xiaomi recently released a list of phones whose software support has ended. This means that the devices named in this list will not receive any new software updates. But to everyone’s surprise, Xiaomi has now announced a major Android update rollout for the Redmi Note 9 phone in this list.
The phone’s software support expired last June. However, today Xiaomi said that the MIUI 14 update will be rolled out for the Redmi Note 9 phones in the third or fourth quarter of this year. The company confirmed the news via email to a user.
And if indeed Xiaomi does this, then this will be the third major update for the Redmi Note 9. Note that the device was launched with MIUI 11 custom skin based on Android 10.
The phone then received two more Android updates. But we guess, the upcoming MIUI 14 update might come based on Android 12 instead of Android 13. Because its hardware may not be suitable for new operating systems.
