ZTE today announced the launch of Nubia Flip, the first foldable smartphone from its Nubia brand. It was initially unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2024) event held last February What sets it apart from other Flip smartphones is the price point. Instead of targeting the premium segment, ZTE has brought the Nubia Flip to the mid-range segment. There is no such cheap flip-fold phone in the market. It features an AMOLED flexible display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, a 50-megapixel high-definition camera sensor and a hinge made of strong space-grade steel, which can withstand 2 lakh times of opening and closing.
Nubia Flip: Specifications and Features
The Nubia Flip has a traditional clamshell design, is 7.0mm slim when open and weighs 209g. It uses a hinge made of high-strength space-grade steel, capable of withstanding up to 200,000 screen openings and closings. The back of the phone has a circular secondary display. It is surrounded by a wide ring, which acts as a camera island.
This circular display measures just 1.43 inches and has an AMOLED panel with a resolution of 466×466 pixels, which helps to view notifications and easily access some basic functions of the smartphone. And the front of the Nubia Flip features a tall 6.9-inch FullHD+ (2,790 × 1,188 pixels) AMOLED foldable display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. And at the top center of the phone’s foldable screen is a punch-hole cutout for the front camera This display offers 2,160 Hz PWM dimming and full coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut.
For performance, the Nubia Flip uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, which is coupled with Adreno 644 GPU for graphics. This processor has also previously been used in the Moto Razr 40, one of Motorola’s mid-range clamshell smartphones. The phone has been launched in China in three RAM and storage configurations – 8GB + 256GB, 12GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512GB. For power backup, the Nubia Flip has a 4,310mAh battery with 33W fast charging support. As claimed by the brand, this charging support can fill the phone’s battery from 0 to 100% in about 73 minutes. The phone also features Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.
For photography, the Nubia Flip’s rear camera setup features a 50-megapixel high-definition primary sensor, along with a 2-megapixel depth sensor for portrait shots. The front of the phone houses a 16-megapixel front camera in the punch hole above the display, but users can also use the primary camera for selfies and video calls. Nubia Flip’s camera system supports AI computational photography and has a highly optimized AI imaging system, which can quickly complete photo capture through AI motion detection, AI neural network noise reduction and image fusion calculation. It will also feature a dedicated night mode for taking pictures of the night sky.
Nubia Flip: Price
The pre-sale of the Nubia Flip in the Chinese market has started today and it will officially go on sale on April 16 at 10 am (local time). The base 8GB RAM + 256GB storage model of this phone is priced at 2,999 Yuan (roughly Rs. 35,200). Besides, the higher-end 12GB RAM + 256GB storage version is priced at 3299 Yuan (approx. Rs. 38,710), while the top-end 12GB RAM + 512GB storage model can be purchased for 3,699 Yuan (approx. Rs. 42,560). Nubia Flip is available in three attractive color options – Caramel, Milk Tea and Taro. However, the company has not yet announced anything about whether this phone will be launched outside China.
