Google’s new smartphone spotted on FCC site, may launch soon

Google launched its flagship Pixel 8 series in the market in October last year. The lineup includes two models – the standard Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro. Every year, the US company also adds an affordable model with a-branding to its Pixel series, which hits the market a few months after the launch of the premium model. So speculations about Google Pixel 8a have already started. Some live images of it and some renders showcasing the ultra wide band (UWB) antenna were also leaked recently. And now the phone has been spotted on the US FCC certification platform with four model numbers. Let’s take a look at what the database revealed about the Google Pixel 8a.

Google Pixel 8a has appeared on the FCC’s site

The US Federal Communications Commission site has listed four new Google models with model numbers G8HHN, GKV4X, G6GPR and G576D. Meanwhile, live images of the retail box of the Google Pixel 8A have already surfaced on the internet. This packaging box shows “Model: G6GPR”, one of the model numbers approved by the FCC

As for the other three models, Google usually makes different models of a phone based on multiple hardware requirements like 5G mmWave antennas in different regions. Notably, the FCC document lists the model numbers as different versions of the same phone. The last two generations of affordable Pixel phones were unveiled by May. So, expect the Pixel 8a to hit the market in the next few months.

The Google Pixel 8a is expected to have a similar form factor to the predecessor Pixel 7a. Because the measurements of the upcoming phone were recently revealed, which are 152.0 x 73.0 x 9.0 mm. Compared to last year’s Google Pixel 7a, it’s only 0.1 millimeters wider, but the rest of the dimensions remain the same.

Additionally, the leaked retail box image shows Google’s distinctive camera module design, which appears to be slightly wider with slightly more rounded corners than the Google Pixel 7a. The Pixel 8a will come with an underclocked version of the company’s latest Tensor G3 chip, which scored 1,218 and 3,175 on Geekbench benchmarking platform’s single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. The phone is expected to offer a 6.1-inch display with the same 90 Hz refresh rate as the previous model and will be available in four color options.
