Double bad news, Oppo canceled this phone, postponed the launch of another model

Just last week, a report claimed that both companies – Oppo and Vivo – are planning to exit the foldable smartphone market. However, as soon as the news came out, an Oppo spokesperson denied the matter. And now, a new report says that the Chinese brand will launch at least one foldable phone this year. However, it will launch much later than the previously planned schedule.

The launch of Oppo’s upcoming foldable phone may be delayed

A tipster in his X (formerly Twitter) post said that development of the Oppo Find N5 Flip is currently on hold. On the other hand, the launch of Oppo Find N5 has been pushed back from the second quarter to the fourth quarter of this year. The tipster attributed the low demand and overstock of the Find N3 as the reason behind the decision.

Also, research firm Trendforce said in their report that both Oppo and Vivo have indicated that they will not launch clamshell foldable smartphones in 2024. However, the two brands may launch book-style horizontal folding phones this year. According to the research firm, clamshell vertical foldable handsets are directly impacting the company’s profits due to high cost. This is despite the Oppo Find N3 Flip being the best-selling clamshell foldable in China last year.

Let us tell you, the Oppo Find N3 Flip which was launched last August impressed the buyers as well as the critics. As a clamshell foldable phone, it offers the best camera system. Naturally, the news of a successor model not arriving this year left fans disappointed. Hopefully, the company will bring back this lineup later. But for now, the future of Oppo’s clamshell foldable phone is uncertain.

However, fans of Oppo’s large-screen horizontal foldable smartphone have no reason to despair, as the launch of the Oppo Find N5 has only been delayed, not cancelled. That is, the OnePlus Open 2 is also expected to launch, which will be unveiled as a rebranded version of the Oppo Find N5 in various countries.
