Damaging the hopes of the middle class, Ola Electric has stopped selling its cheapest scooter

Ola launched a bunch of new battery variants of its S1 Air and S1 electric scooters this year. However, the Bengaluru-based company suddenly stopped selling the 2kWh battery variant of its cheapest entry-level model, the Ola S1 electric scooter, when the government cut subsidies. Due to which the scooter will be sold only in the 3 kWh battery pack option from now on. As a result, Ola’s plan to buy two-wheeler battery vehicles at a low price can be said to be a setback.

Ola S1 Air and S1’s 2kWh battery packs are discontinued

The current market price of Ola S1 stands at Rs 1.10 lakh (ex-showroom). The price of the model started at Rs 84,999 (ex-showroom) before the reduction in central subsidy. Similarly, Ola has discontinued the 2 kWh battery version of their S1. In fact, the company’s decision is due to the high demand for the 3kWh model.

It has been informed by Ola that the customers who booked the discontinued model will be delivered the 3kWh variant. Customers can cancel their bookings and claim a refund if they want. From now on the Ola S1 Air and S1 can only be opted for with a 3 kWh battery pack. Whereas the S1 Pro version is available in a 4 kWh battery pack.

The three scooters will be priced at Tk 1.10 lakh, Tk 1.30 lakh and Tk 1.40 lakh respectively. Each price is as per ex-showroom price with revised FEM-II subsidy from June 1. Ola’s competitors in the country include Ather Energy, TVS, Bajaj, Vida, Okinawa etc. Ola is expected to start delivering the S1 Air from July.
