Tata Punch dominated the Indian passenger car market in the last two months, March and April. Because it was the top four wheeler in terms of sales. But the statistics of May surprised everyone. It is Maruti's best-selling car, overtaking the Tata Punch
Last month the largest number of Indians bought the newly launched fourth generation Maruti Suzuki Swift. That's why the Swift facelift didn't have the momentum to wrest the best-selling car title from the Tata Punch. It may be noted that this year March and April Punch sold 17,547 units and 19,158 units respectively. But sales fell to 18,949 units in May.
The new Maruti Suzuki Swift saw a total of 19,393 buyers last month. Due to which it has overtaken Tata Punch. Maruti Suzuki's premium hatchback has been priced from Rs 6.49 lakh to Rs 9.64 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the ICE version of the Tata Punch is priced between Rs 6.13 lakh and Rs 10.20 lakh (ex-showroom). Where Tata Punch EV costs Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
Apart from Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Swift has no direct competitor. Another premium hatchback Hyundai Grand i10 Nios crossed 5,328 new addresses in May. Where the same priced Hyundai Exter sold 7,697 units. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Hyundai Exter prices start at Rs 5.92 lakh and Rs 6.13 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.
