A joint venture between SAIC, GM and Wuling has debuted a compact electric SUV (SUV) in China. The name of the car is – Baojun Yep. It is based on MG Comet’s global small electric vehicle platform. The electric motor of the 3.3 meter long compact SUV model with seating for four will transmit power to the rear axle. The car may also be launched in India. Which will be sold under MG Motor. Baojun Yep will be brought to the country under MG Motor India branding. Baojun Yep can give tough competition to Maruti Suzuki Jimny launched today.
Baojun Yep Powertrain and Features
The car has a 28.1 kW battery. It is claimed to provide a range of 303 km on a full charge. The electric motor will produce 66 hp of power and 140 Nm of torque. The maximum speed of the car is 100 km per hour. In terms of charging, a DC First charger can charge from 30 to 80 percent in 35 minutes.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny is here to rival the newly unveiled compact electric SUV Baojun Yep. Both models are boxy in design. The Jeep gets 15-inch alloy wheels, dash-shaped headlights and an LED display on the tailgate as industry first features. It also features a three-spoke steering wheel with multiple controls, drive selector on the central console, switch for AC control and a glovebox.
Also, the car features a 10.25-inch infotainment system, digital cluster, battery temperature management system, rear view camera, heated front seats, and electrically adjustable driver’s seat. And the top variant has Edus-Tech feature. Among them are available adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, a 360-degree camera, automatic parking assist, etc.
