Instagram Introduced the number of new Features to control cyber bullying on its platform. These new Features include Comment Deletion in Bulk, Restrict certain users to comment on their posts and the power to choose who can tag you in photos and more. Let’s take a look at these Features in Detail.
Before looking at these Features, What is CyberBullying?
Cyberbullying or cyberharassment is a form of bullying or harassment using electronic means. Cyberbullying is when someone, typically a teenager, bullies or harasses others on the internet and in other digital spaces, particularly on social media sites. Harmful bullying behavior can include posting rumors, threats, sexual remarks, a victim’s personal information, or pejorative labels.
1. Removing Comments in Bulk
Before this feature, a user has to select and delete each comment individually. This task is very annoying for Instagrammers with a huge fan base. With this new update, the company is now allowing iOS users to select and delete multiple comments at once. This feature had been available on the Android version of the app for some time now.
For iOS users to delete multiple comments at once, iOS users need to tap on the three dots on the top right corner and select the ‘Manage Comments’ option. They can then choose up to 25 comments to delete at once.
2. Restricting comments of certain users or accounts
Using this feature a user can restrict particular accounts to comment on their photos in the future but he/she will be able to see their post. To do so iOS users need to tap the three dots on the top right corner while in the comments section of a photo. There they need to select the ‘Manage Comments’ option and tap on the ‘More Options’. There they can select the accounts they want to restrict from commenting on their photos. Android users need to press and hold a comment to select it and after that, they need to tap the three dots on the top right corner and select the ‘Block or Restrict’ option.
3. Power to choose who can tag you in their Posts
Before this Feature, Anyone on Instagram can tag you in their posts but it’s not good to tag anybody without his permission. To Counter this, Instagram is Providing an option to choose who can tag you in posts. This feature is located inside of the ‘Privacy’ tab located in the settings menu. It provides users with three Settings:
i. Everyone:- This option lets everyone tag them inside the posts.
ii. Only People You Follow:- This option allows the people you follow to make posts with a tag to your profile.
iii. No One:- This option lets nobody on the platform tag you inside of posts.
Highlighting Positive Comments(Update in Future Soon)
Instagram will provide a new feature to its users soon using which they are able to pin positive comments on a photo post. Pinning a comment will highlight it and show the comment on top. This feature is currently not available for all users as the company is currently testing it internally. However, it states that the feature will be made available soon.
