The 'Telecom Regulatory Authority of India' (TRAI) recently released their 'Telecom Subscriber Data' report for the month of March this year. According to the report, Jio reigns supreme in the Indian telecom industry with a market share of 40.30%. Rival telecom operator Airtel (33.10%) took the second place. However, like every time, the latest TRAI report clearly states that government-owned BSNL and MTNL are lagging behind in the competition.
TRAI's Subscriber Data March 2024 Report Out, Jio Takes Top Position
Mukesh Ambani-led Jio connected 2.14 million or 21.4 lakh subscribers in March last year. Which is the highest in the last 10 months. On the other hand, Airtel is at the second position. In March 2024, this telecom operator got 1.75 million or 17.5 lakh new subscribers. Which is 0.21 million or 2.1 lakh more than February. Third place is occupied by Vodafone Idea or Vi. Let it be known that 47,247 users joined the company in February. But Vi lost 684,530 users in March.
Meanwhile, according to the report, Jio currently holds 40.30% market share of the entire telecom market. Airtel has a market share of 33.10% under Vi got a market share of 18.86% The remaining market share is split between – BSNL (7.57%), MTNL (0.17%), and Reliance Communications (0.000%). In this regard, it is seen that the combined market share of private and PSU telecom companies till March was 92.26% and 7.74% respectively.
In this regard, BSNL as a 'Public Sector Undertakings' or PSU Telecom has faced a major blow in the Halfil, which is quite clearly visible in the figures provided by TRAI. In fact, about 2.3 million or 23 lakh users have stopped using the company's services. This is the first time that BSNL has lost such a large number of subscribers.
Incidentally, Jio had 430.36 million active subscribers (VLR) till December last year. Sunil Bharti Mittal-owned Airtel had 385.41 million active users the other day.
