Electric vehicles will outnumber ICE models in the Indian car market within the next few years. This is not unusual given the rate at which EV models are being launched. This time, the company that is good at making premium cars, Volkswagen (Volkswagen) has removed the curtain on a new electric crossover car. This is Volkswagen ID.4. The company has confirmed the launch of the car in the Indian market. However, nothing has been confirmed about the launch period.
Volkswagen ID.4 debuts in India
The ID.4 is Volkswagen’s first battery electric vehicle in India. The brand’s most popular car in the global market is offered in multiple trims. It sits below the ID.3 hatchback in the company’s portfolio. The company showcased the ID.4 GTX at the brand’s annual conference in India 2023.

Note that the Gateway, which is based on the Mahindra Scorpio Classic, has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. Whereas the pick-up version of the Scorpio N will have a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. But by looking at the teaser, it is assumed that it will be able to run with Vikram even on difficult roads. The video shows the double cab body style, rugged looking front grille, and large wheeled tires for off-road use. The production version of the Mahindra Scorpio N pick-up truck is expected to hit the market in 2025. It is likely to come in both single and double cab body styles. It has petrol and diesel engine options as powertrain. Again the car can be chosen with two transmissions – manual and automatic. Mahindra will offer its pick-up truck in both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions. However, whether the upcoming model will replace the Scorpio pick-up or be sold as a standalone model is not yet clear.
Design features on the sharp-looking Volkswagen ID.4 include edgy-looking headlamps, front air intakes and taillamps flanked by lightbars. Inside the cabin is a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
In the international market, the ID.4 is available with a choice of single and dual motors. The base model produces 168 bhp of power. While the ID.4 Pro and GTX models get a maximum of 282 bhp and 334 bhp respectively. The larger model with a 77 kWh battery offers a range of 550 km on a full charge. Where 52 KWh travels 342 km. However, there is no word yet on which variant the ID.4 will be offered in the Indian market.
