Phone call fraud is on the rise in India. And that's why TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) specially warned the countrymen. The company said the callers were posing as employees of TRAI or some other department. These calls threaten to resolve billing issues, update KYC or disconnect mobile services.
According to TRAI, the number of fraudulent calls claiming to be associated with TRAI has been increasing rapidly in recent times. Cyber criminals are threatening to block the mobile number if the requested information is not given through these calls. TRAI has made it clear to the countrymen that they do not make direct calls on any such matter. At the same time TRAI also said that it has not allowed any third party company to make such calls.
Request not to trust telecom customers
TRAI warns not to believe calls regarding KYC update. Because it can result in customers becoming victims of fraud. Apart from this TRAI also said that only your telecom company can inform you about billing related matters and KYC or mobile number related matters.
How to protect yourself from fraud or fraud
1- Do not trust any anonymous call, where the caller claims to be an employee of TRAI or any other government department.
2- Always check suspicious calls or messages by contacting the official customer support of your telecom service provider.
Call 3- 1930 or visit cybercrime.gov.in to report any cyber crime incident.
