Recently the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI has recommended the launch of a service called “Calling Name Presentation” (CNAP). Through which the name of the caller can be seen on the mobile screen from now on. That is, if a call comes from an unknown number, the user will see the caller’s name on the mobile screen before receiving the call. And this service will be offered to the customers of every telecom company. Also, this service will make it much easier to get rid of frequent unwanted calls. It should be noted that the popular app called Truecaller provides similar services.
How TRAI’s Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service will work
According to TRAI, CNAP facility should be made available on all smartphones sold in India after a certain date. And to do this, the government needs to issue proper directives to every telecom company. In this case, the customer’s name or identity details given in the application form while getting mobile connection can be used during CNAP service.
Incidentally, various homegrown smartphone tools, apps like Truecaller and Bharat Caller can also identify caller names and spam calls. But, since these apps provide information based on data collected from people, the service of these apps is not always accurate and reliable.
Hence, the Telecom Regulatory Authority has recommended that the Telecom Companies should provide CNAP services to the users following proper norms. However, the government has not released any information about when this facility will be implemented.
