The Telecom Regulatory Authority is about to make significant changes to India's national number system. The landline number has been proposed to change. This number has been the same for the last two decades. According to the new decision, the telecom company aims to ensure a more skilled and reliable telecom system in line with the increasing number of mobile phones and connected devices.
Big changes in the national number system
The Telecommunications Department (DOT) issued a directive in 2022 to change the national number system. Where the fix-line numbering and telecom code correction was mentioned. After a thorough discussion with telecom industrial experts, the Tri has recommended an important change in this regard.
Landline like the mobile number
The biggest change is that the landline numbers will soon be converted into a digit like mobile number. So that the numbers available can be better. The Tri has recommended this to make the numbering system further easier. Also, users need to dial '1' before calling the landline to the landline. However, the process of dialing from mobile to landline has been kept unchanged.
3 months
Telecom companies have been given a six -month deadline to implement these changes. Tri's hope is that the operators will be able to adapt to the new numbering format during this period. Moreover, the tri announced plans to launch a fix-line number portability within the next five years, similar to the current mobile number portability (MNP).
