The American multinational car manufacturer Ford has announced the withdrawal of 85,000 cars due to the fear that the engine may catch fire. The flaw was found in their Explorer SUV model, which is used by US police forces. The recall was issued yesterday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It has been reported that the 3.3-liter hybrid or petrol models of the Ford Explorer manufactured between 2020 and 2022 are at risk of catching fire. NHTSA warns that significant amounts of engine oil or fuel vapor can escape under the hood to cause engine failure. This can cause the bonnet to catch fire and melt internal components.

It should be noted that 13 such fires have occurred in North America till July 9. This happened because of a breach in the engine block. Models with the 3.3 liter engine manufactured before June 2, 2022 are affected by the incident. However, no injuries or casualties were reported. Ford plans to send letters to vehicle owners informing them of the problem and advising them on safety measures.

If the engine makes an unusual noise, torque drops suddenly, or smoke is seen coming from the engine compartment, stop the engine immediately, Ford says. Ford is currently working on a fix for the Explorer SUV. It sounds like the fix could take next year.
