Tata Motors, one of India's leading passenger car manufacturers, is looking to set up a new factory in Tamil Nadu. The company will invest Rs 9,000 crore there. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin laid the foundation stone for the project at Panapakkam, about 115 km from Chennai. The factory is expected to create 5,000 jobs when operational.

Several dignitaries including senior DMK ministers Durai Murugan and TRB Raja, Chief Secretary N Muruganandam and Tata Sons Limited Chairman N Chandrasekaran were present at the foundation-breaking ceremony. Incidentally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Tata Motors and the Tamil Nadu government in March 2023 for the new factory.

The new manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu marks a significant milestone in Tata Motors' expansion plans. On this day, Chief Minister Stalin said, “Tamil Nadu is the first investment destination not only for large companies operating in India, but also for multinational brands.”

Tata Motors plans to manufacture Jaguar and Land Rover brand cars for the global market at the new plant. Annual production capacity will be 2,50,000 units at the time of commissioning. The production capacity will be further increased in next 5 to 7 years.
