Under the telecom initiatives in rural India, the second largest telecom company Airtel has begun expanding the network across the country. In the last two years, Airtel has expanded the network in more than 5 villages by setting up about 5 sites. Last September, Airtel reported that their 3G network coverage reached 5,7 grams and the 3G network coverage was expanded in 5 villages across the country.

It has been reported that Airtel has begun expanding the network by establishing new sites, as part of the Rural Development Project, and included previously underprivileged places. In 2021, the company reported that they would complete more than 5,7 sites for expansion of coverage in about 5 grams by 2021. The company has once again proved that Airtel is fully committed to the progress of rural network expansion.
Recently, Airtel has recently participated with the Indian Army to connect villages in Kupwara, Baramullah and Bandipur districts along the Loch Line (LOC) of North Kashmir. Also, Airtel has earned the milestone of becoming the first service provider that connects to Fobrang, the remote border village in India.
