Petrol-Diesel Sales: Petrol-Diesel sales are decreasing in the country, suddenly why is this situation?

From the beginning of June, there was a slowdown in the demand for petrol-diesel in the Indian market. In fact, with the arrival of the monsoons, demand in the agricultural sector and the use of vehicles on the roads have drastically reduced. As a result, the demand for fuel oil has also seen a decline. In the first half of this month, the demand for diesel, the most widely used fuel in the country, fell by 6.7% to 30.43 lakh tonnes from June 1-15 last year.

Decline in petrol diesel demand from the beginning of June

In April and May this year, diesel demand was seen to grow by 6.7% and 9.3% respectively. Because the use of tractors in the agricultural land of this country was more in those two months. In addition, the demand for diesel increased due to the increased use of air conditioners in cars during the summer heat. As a result, diesel sales increased by 3.4% in May compared to April (1-15).

In the first half of June this year, petrol consumption fell by 5.7% to 1.3 crore tonnes compared to the previous year. Again, petrol demand contracted by 3.8% compared to May. In the second half of March, demand for petrol and diesel skyrocketed as vehicle use in India’s industrial and agricultural sectors increased.

A drop in temperature is felt with the arrival of monsoon. As a result, there is less need to irrigate the crop fields. This reduces the use of generators, naturally reducing the demand for fuel. From June 1-15, 2023, the demand for petrol in the country has been seen to increase by 44.2 percent and 14.6 percent from Corona 2021 and 2019, respectively. And in the case of diesel, sales have been observed to increase by 38 percent and 8.8 percent respectively.
