Bharat NCAP will check the safety standards of all vehicles manufactured in India. However, this test is not mandatory for cars imported from abroad or manufactured in this country. Applications must be submitted if they wish to assess the safety of their own model. BNCAP will then provide the rating based on the test.
Cars will be rated according to Automotive Industry Standard or AIS 197 rules. The arrival of India NCAP has been welcomed by the most secure car providers like Tata-Mahindra. Mahindra said, “We think this is a strong move by the Department of Transport.” “Through this safety test, buyers will be aware about the safety of the car,” said Maruti Suzuki.
On the other hand, a Toyota spokesperson said, “We believe the arrival of India NCAP is a step in the right direction. This will create a clear understanding among them about the safety features of the vehicle.” Kia and Skoda took the same view. Incidentally, India NCAP will crash test the vehicle and assign a rating from one to five. At a speed of more than 60 kmph, accidents will occur in front, back and on both sides. Based on that, the agency will provide ratings for adult and child passengers.
