Jio wants customers well, Airtel and Vi are getting in the way? All the trouble in Rs 100 MNP plan

Reliance Jio has been waking up older companies like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone since entering the Indian market. They are providing more benefits to the customers than others, that too at a lower cost. But this time it is this positive attitude of Mukesh Ambani’s company that seems to have created business complications for them. In fact, Jio, recently presented a new plan on Mobile Number Portability (MNP) before India’s telecom regulatory body TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), proposing to provide MNP or connection port facility even if the postpaid connection has a Rs 100 bill outstanding. is given Undoubtedly, customers would have benefited greatly if this change were implemented, but Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) have strongly objected to Jio’s proposal.

What are Jio’s competitors saying?

As per the current rules, telecom companies can stop mobile number portability applications for postpaid users if their bill or dues are Rs 10 or more. If the outstanding balance is less than 10 rupees, then there is no pressure to port the number. In that case, in the recent proposal, JIO has increased the bill limit and said to provide number port and MNP facility in the balance of Tk 100.

According to a recent report by Financial Express, Reliance Jio has submitted this new proposal to TRAI by submitting the ‘Draft Telecommunications Mobile Number Portability (Ninth Amendment) Regulations’. But before the TRAI authorities could say anything, Airtel and Jio expressed disagreement over Jio’s proposal.

In this regard, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea say that if the outstanding discount for porting mobile numbers is increased from Rs 10 to Rs 100, it will have a negative impact on the revenues of the telecom operators. This will reduce their revenue, on the other hand, there may be a trend of exodus i.e. changing connection providers among customers, and even their debt burden may increase. However, Jio has argued that postpaid customers will only benefit if there is a high non-payment disconnection (NPD) limit or an MNP limit of Rs 100, as the current process is cumbersome and time-consuming. All in all, it remains to be seen what TRAI decides after examining this complex situation…
