Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently completed his visit to the United States. And while addressing a forum in New York during this visit, Modi revealed several facts. He said, currently India's 5G market is much bigger than America's 5G market. And India has been able to do this in just two years. In this context, 5G was launched in India on 1st October 2022 at the India Mobile Congress. And after 1 week, 5G rollout started commercially in several areas of the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech also said that India was not connected to all these activities in the way it is today. And now India has also started working on Made-in India 6G technology. Notably, India now has more than 4.5 lakh 5G base transceiver stations.
Why is 5G usage increasing in India?
The availability of affordable 5G phones in the Indian market helps more consumers to access high-speed internet services. Also, telcos now offer 5G services with 4G plans at no extra cost. As a result people can enjoy 5G services without spending much. So, naturally the usage of 5G in India is increasing day by day due to all these reasons.
Incidentally, Jio's 5G user base has crossed nearly 130 million at present. And, currently Airtel's 5G user base is close to 100 million. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea is also looking to launch 5G in the last quarter of FY2025. Currently, the company is facing huge losses due to lack of 5G network. So the company has decided to provide fast 5G coverage to increase their subscribers.
Also, BSNL is stepping up to roll out their 4G services across the country. And the state-owned company claims that its 4G services are upgradeable to 5G. That means they will easily upgrade their network to 5G once the 4G service is launched.
