India’s Cyber Security nodal agency CERT-In has also asked the Twitter for details on a number of people from India who have visited the malicious tweets and links, and whether the affected users have been informed by the platform about unauthorized access to their Twitter accounts or not.
Indian Government has also requested information on vulnerability exploited by attackers and the instant action taken by Twitter to reduce the impact of the hacking incident.
On 16th July, Cyber attackers had hacked the Twitter accounts of high profile users which includes former US President Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. In reply, Twitter had reportedly freeze access to all verified accounts but the hackers have already collected the amount of Rs. 89 lakhs through this scam.
Yesterday, Twitter said that cyber attackers targeted some of its employees through a social engineering strategy and used their credentials to access its internal systems for hacking numerous accounts in the Bitcoin scam.
“We believe attackers targeted certain Twitter employees through a social ring scheme. They manipulated our number of employees and used their credentials to access Twitter’s internal OPEN APP systems, including getting through our two- factor protections,” Social media giant added.
