In that case, a man in Apple’s own home soil in the US recently thanked the company’s Apple Watch for helping him discover a hidden heart condition. By doing this, he was saved from any big danger before it happened.
Apple warned users about heart disease again
According to reports, 65-year-old Jeff Priest, retired president of the University of South Carolina Aiken, received an important update on his health through the Apple Watch he used. Jeff, while sitting on the couch one day, his Apple Watch alerts him to a sudden change in heart condition called atrial fibrillation (AFib). Because Jeff had no heart problems or prior illnesses, he initially thought it was a device malfunction. But, at wife Ellen’s insistence, Jeff decides to have a medical checkup just to be on the safe side. And on going to the hospital, the doctors said that he really has a heart problem. In that case, Jeff was kept under monitoring and given medication, even though he had no symptoms.

Again felt some confusion. This time too, his Apple Watch warns of atrial fibrillation, a sudden change in heart rhythm. Meanwhile, the senior was able to track his heart rate with just his sophisticated wristwatch without frequent hospital visits or doctor’s appointments. This is how he gets the confidence to stay informed and get through the day, along with timely diagnosis.
What is atrial fibrillation or AFib?
Atrial fibrillation or AFIB is a type of arrhythmia, simply put, an abnormal heart rhythm. When the atria, or upper chambers, of the heart begin to beat out of sync with the ventricles, or lower chambers. This disease affects many people as they age, and usually has no symptoms. Meanwhile, early detection of AFIB is very important, because if not treated in time, it can lead to serious complications such as stroke or heart attack. In that case, Apple introduced the disease warning feature with its watchOS 9 in 2022 after receiving approval from the US Food and Drug Administration.
