Children’s privacy is believed to be threatened by social media. Social media Google and Facebook are stealing information from apps used by children. Data privacy company, Arca claims so based on a study. Both social media platforms are collecting data from children’s apps, they said.
A study of 60 children’s Android apps across nine categories, including games, education, technology, school, coding and childcare, found that Google was the most likely to pull information from these apps. Google has so far collected an average of 33 percent of data with such apps, and Facebook has collected an average of 22 percent.
And the most data is taken from apps like Flyer and Lovein. Both apps leaked 38 percent of the data. In addition, 85 percent of the apps included in the study are said to be stealing sensitive information.
And 73 percent of these apps had access to saved files. Another 46 percent had access to a microphone. While 43 percent cameras, 38 percent phones, 27 percent communication media, 23 percent location.
