Yamaha, a Japan's famous two-wheeler company, is planning to create a specific electric vehicle (EV) platform for India. This is what Yamaha Motor India Group Chairman Etaru Otani said. He said that Yamaha designed based on the platform concept of their electric bikes or scooters, which will meet the needs of the local people. It should be noted that the company has not yet set foot in the country's electric di-wheel car market.
Yamaha wants to make electric two-wheelers for India
Yamaha wants to move on to the local or locally developed electric vehicle platform. Otani says that the speed and implementation of Yamaha's tactics will be very important for this decision. However, he identified many disadvantages of the Indian electric vehicle market, especially in fulfilling the expectations of customers in terms of prices, range and speed.
Keeping invested, Yamaha has invested in Bengaluru's EV to-wheeler Start-Up River. It indicates their interest in the Indian electric market. River Evi praised Otani that they are now exploring the possibility of using Indian company's platform for future EV products.
Yamaha is originally known for their motorcycles and scooters' speed and performance. The company is also considering the performance-based approach in the case of electrical models. Because they think high-efficient EVs are better fit with their brand positioning.
Otani adds that these types of models require large batteries, which make them more expensive in the value-sensitive market in India. As a result, they will be careful. However, Yamaha has not yet published any schedule when their first EV will be launched in India.
