Xiaomi is walking the path of using special technology to increase the security of smartphones

Xiaomi 15 series of phones are going to enter the market with multiple upgrades. Ahead of the launch, special information has now surfaced about its fingerprint scanning technology.

Xiaomi is currently working on their next generation flagship Xiaomi 15 lineup of handsets. The series is expected to hit the market by October. However, before the launch, information about these upcoming handsets has started leaking through various sources. And now a tipster has claimed that the upcoming Xiaomi 15 series will see a significant upgrade in fingerprint scanning technology. The standard Xiaomi 15, Xiaomi 15 Pro, and Xiaomi 15 Ultra – all three models may come with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor instead of offering an optical in-display fingerprint scanner like the predecessor.

An ultrasonic fingerprint sensor can be seen on Xiaomi 15 series phones

Ultrasonic fingerprint technology is gaining popularity in the flagship phone market, with brands like Samsung incorporating it into their high-end devices. Unlike optical scanners that use light to read fingerprints, ultrasonic sensors use sound waves to create a more detailed 3D map of the fingerprint. It can provide several benefits, including:

Improved security – Ultrasonic sensors are claimed to be more secure than optical scanners, as they work better against spoofing such as photographs or printed replicas.

Better wet/dry performance – Optical scanners have trouble scanning wet or dusty fingers, but ultrasonic sensors work more reliably in a variety of conditions.

Faster unlocking speed – Some reports say that ultrasonic sensors can unlock devices faster than optical scanners. Although the sensor has good accuracy and fast unlocking speed, it is expensive compared to optical scanners.

Although, the tipster on his Weibo (Chinese microblogging site) said that all three models of the Xiaomi 15 series will get the upgrade, but note that this information is yet to be officially confirmed by Xiaomi.

Also, there is no mention of what kind of ultrasonic sensors the Xiaomi 15 lineup will have. Some manufacturers use a “single-point” solution, while some companies offer larger sensor areas for faster and more reliable unlocking.

The Xiaomi 15 series is expected to launch sometime in November, likely to be powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. There are still a few months to go before the official launch, so expect more details and confirmations about fingerprint technology and other features to emerge in the coming weeks.
