Xiaomi has stopped software support on a number of popular phones, including the Redmi 9 Pro

Xiaomi often announces the discontinuation of software support for older models from its extensive smartphone portfolio. For example, the company stopped software support for the Mi 10 Lite Zoom smartphone available in China at the end of last April. It was speculated that Xiaomi would follow the same move for the global Mi 10 Lite 5G within the next month. And now, confirming that assumption, this device has been listed on Xiaomi’s official End of Support (EOS) list. Apart from this, the company has also stopped supporting multiple models of the Redmi Note 9 series. Let’s get into the details.

The brand has stopped software support for several Xiaomi phones

As reported by XiaomiUI, the Mi 10 Lite 5G model has been added to Xiaomi’s End of Support (EOS) list, confirming the end of software support for the phone. On the other hand, software support for the Redmi Note 9S, Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max models – included in the Redmi Note 9 series – has been discontinued. However, these handsets are yet to be included in the said list. But according to the security bulletin, they are only supposed to receive security updates until May, 2023.

Since, these phones just received a security update in April and May is coming to an end, there may not be any new software for them after that. EOS list will be updated soon with these handsets. All these smartphones were launched in early 2020. So Xiaomi stopped their software support after 3 years of launch.

In comparison, similarly priced Samsung devices launched at the same time will continue to receive software support for next year (4 years). But Chinese brands like Oppo, Vivo and Realme follow the same policy as Xiaomi.
