Vivo today (31st May) announced the Vivo S17 smartphone series in their home-market. A total of three phones are included under this new lineup, namely – Vivo S17, Vivo S17t and Vivo S17 Pro. In other words, both models – FHD+ display panel with 120Hz refresh rate, up to 512GB of storage, 50-megapixel selfie sensor with dual soft-LED flash unit, under-display fingerprint scanner, and 80W fast charging supported battery. However, the difference in the chipset department of Vivo S17 and Vivo S17t will be noticed. The vanilla model of the series has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus chipset, while the higher variants are powered by a MediaTek Dimension 8050 processor. Let’s know the price and specifications of Vivo S17 and S17t smartphones in detail.
Specifications and features of Vivo S17 and Vivo S17t smartphones
First let’s talk about the configuration of Vivo S17 smartphone. It comes with a 6.78-inch Full HD Plus (2800×1260 pixels) curved-edge AMOLED display, which supports 800000:1 contrast ratio, 10-bit color, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and 120Hz refresh rate. It has an under-display fingerprint scanner for security. And the device measures 164.18×74.37×7.46 mm and weighs 186 grams.
The S17-series handset features Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus chipset for improved performance. The phone will be available with up to 12GB LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB (UFS 2.2) / 512GB (UFS 3.1) storage. FYI, last year’s Vivo S16 came with a more powerful Snapdragon 870 chipset. However, the phone in question has a 4,505mAh capacity battery for power backup, which supports 80W fast charging.
Talking about the camera department, the standard model of the series i.e. Vivo S17 has a 50-megapixel Samsung JN1 selfie camera with dual soft-LED flash unit. And on the back of the device there is a dual camera setup with ring-LED flash. These cameras are – OIS-enabled 50-megapixel Samsung GN5 primary sensor and 8-megapixel Sony IMX355 ultra-wide lens. The front and rear cameras are capable of capturing videos at up to 4K (4K) resolution.
On the other hand, Vivo S17t smartphone is the first device to come with MediaTek Dimension 8050 processor. And as mentioned earlier, the rest of the specifications of this phone are similar to the regular Vivo S17. Both handsets in this series offer the same connectivity ports, namely – dual SIM slots, 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC and a USB Type-C port.
Incidentally, the Vivo S17 series comes with a unique rear panel design called ‘Particle Ink’. Vivo developed this technology under a research project in 2020 In this technology, invisible magnetic energy is used to arrange 15 million magnetic particles on the rear panel of the phone. Ultimately this technology creates a unique pattern of light and shadow on the back of the device This ‘unique’ back panel design gives the Vivo S17 series an impressive and attractive look.
