The iPhone 20 series will have an under-display selfie camera to rival Android phones

Apple launched the iPhone 17 lineup last September. There are four models in this series: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Air. Even before the launch of this series, the company was known to be working on the upcoming iPhone 18 lineup. However, overriding these, the specifications and features of the iPhone 20 series have recently been leaked online. Reports suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro lineup will feature in-display Face ID and front-facing camera sensors.

Upcoming iPhone models will not come with pill-shaped selfie cutout displays

Tipster Digital Chat Station on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo claims that Apple is planning to introduce smartphones with under-display cameras in 2027. And the name of this series will be iPhone 20. The tipster believes the company will drop the ‘iPhone 19’ name to celebrate its 20th anniversary that year.

If the tipster’s claim is true, then Apple will move away from the pill-shaped selfie camera cutout design for its smartphones, which was first seen on the iPhone 14 Pro model. The company has since tried to minimize this cutout. However, in 2027, this cutout design may be completely discontinued.

Apple is working on HIAA technology

Meanwhile, a recent report said that Apple is testing Hole in Active Area (HIAA) technology, which would allow the iPhone 18 Pro series OLED display to house the camera and Face ID sensor in one place. The series is expected to hit the market in September next year. As a result, we can see the design change from next year.
