Apple is going to unveil its next generation iPhone 16 series in the second half of this year. Although the launch is still several months away, the speculation about the upcoming flagship devices has not stopped. Various reports have already hinted at multiple changes and upgrades in the new iPhone models. It is currently believed that the iPhone 16’s battery will also see an upgrade. Because the US company has filed a new patent, which reveals that the company plans to increase the battery capacity without increasing the size. Today, Android devices are coming to the market with new fast-charging technologies and higher battery capacities, with battery capacities of over 5,000 mAh becoming commonplace. But Apple is still trying to add more capacity batteries to their phones.
Apple’s new patent shows a higher capacity battery in the same size
Apple’s new patent titled “Battery Cells with Tabs at Right Angles” suggests that capacity can be increased without increasing battery size, courtesy of Apple’s new technology. This patent was first filed in September 2021 and published on March 26, 2024. Apple is researching methods such as membranes and foldable battery components to extend battery life
Also, Apple’s new patent indicates that the battery connector of future generation iPhones may be different from the known and conventional battery type. Achieving a high-capacity battery has to do with battery tab positions, the US tech company says Apple stated that, while one set of connectors may include tabs extending from one surface in a first direction, the other set of connectors will include tabs extending perpendicularly from a surface in a first direction.
Since, Apple has just published this patent, it is not very likely that the iPhone 16 series will feature this new battery technology. However, if everything goes according to Apple’s plan, customers won’t have to wait too long to use iPhones with larger batteries. However, Mac Observer claims in their report that the new battery could be used in the iPhone 16 series.
