The sales of Apple brand iPhone & iPad in India has increased significantly this year. According to a latest report by CyberMedia Research (CMR), the Tim Cook-owned company recorded up to 70% year-on-year (YoY) growth in iPhone shipments in the country in the second quarter of 2023. Not only this, iPad shipment figures also increased in this same quarter.
According to a report by CMR, the latest iPhone 14 series and its predecessor iPhone 13 lineup models were instrumental in driving Apple’s year-on-year (YoY) sales growth upward last quarter. But apart from the two discussed series, the older generation iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 lineup also contributed to the sales growth. Overall, the combined sales performance of each of the mentioned series has enabled Apple to carve out a niche in India’s premium smartphone market this year.
Menka Kumari, analyst at ‘Industry Intelligence Group’ (IIG) said – “Apple sees strong growth in India in Q2 2023. iPhone shipments increased significantly during that period. Apple recorded a 70% year-on-year growth in shipments mainly due to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 series.”
Note that in the second quarter of 2023, Apple iPhone 13 emerged as the most popular and best-selling series in India. According to the CMR report, the iPhone 13 series had the highest market share (52%) among the iPhone models sold in India. Reasons being said, online sales and offers helped boost sales. Also, since the feature difference between the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series is very small, many buyers feel that it is more profitable to choose the predecessor.
However, the report also said that although the iPhone 13 was ahead in sales figures, the iPhone 14 series was not far behind. The iPhone 14 series accounted for 45% of the total iPhone units shipped in the second quarter of this year. On the other hand, the iPhone 11 series launched in 2019 contributed around 2% to Apple’s sales growth. And the iPhone 12 series, which debuted in 2020, captured 1% of total sales in the second quarter.
CMR also stated in their report that sales of Apple’s iPad lineup have also increased along with the iPhone. At the mentioned time – the 9th generation iPad series had a market share of 42%, and the 10th generation iPad series launched last year managed to capture 22% market share. And, iPad Air (iPad Air) and iPad Pro (iPad Pro) lineup announced in 2022 achieved 18% and 16% market share respectively.
