Realme in controversy ahead of new phone launch, accused of spreading misinformation in advertisements

Realme recently announced the launch of its new P-series smartphones, Realme P1 and P1 Pro in India. The company claims that the P1 Pro will be the “only phone with a curved display under Rs 20,000” and the standard P1 will offer “the first 120Hz AMOLED display under Rs 15,000”. However, these claims by Realme have created controversy online. Some have again accused Realme of misleading marketing.

Realme’s P1 series has created controversy

Lava Mobile’s Blaze Curve 5G phone launched last March Controversy ensues. It offers a curved AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate at Rs 17,999. That is, this Lava phone already offers a curved display in the sub-Rs 20,000 segment, as claimed by Realme with their P1 Pro.

However, the Realme P1 Pro’s display may offer additional features like Pro-XDR support and Rainwater Touch. But Realme’s marketing insists on “the only curved display under Rs 20,000”, which seems misleading based on the existence of Lava phones.

On the other hand, the Realme P1’s claim of “first 120Hz AMOLED display under Rs 15,000” seems to be valid. Right now, the only phone priced around Rs 15,000 with a 120Hz refresh rate AMOLED display is the Poco X6 Neo, priced at Rs 15,999. As the full specifications are yet to be revealed, this may change once the Realme P1 is finally priced above Rs 15,000.

Therefore, it is important for consumers to research this before believing marketing claims. It is wise to check tech news sources and compare the specifications of different phones in the same price range to make a buying decision. Both the Realme P1 and P1 Pro are slated to launch in India on April 15.
