The Oppo Reno 10 series debuted in China at the end of May. And within two months of the launch in the domestic market, the lineup has slowly started to enter the global market. It was launched in the Indian market this week itself. For the first time, the company is launching the top-end ‘Pro+’ model of this series in almost all regions. It makes its debut as this year’s Oppo flagship outside of China, as the company’s flagship Find X6 lineup will be limited to the Chinese market only. Despite being expensive devices in multiple markets, the Reno series is not as premium as the Find X It falls under the affordable premium category and focuses more on lifestyle-centric aspects like design and camera features. Let’s find out whether Oppo has managed to enter the premium segment in India with the Reno 10 Pro Plus model.
In India, Oppo is trying to promote its Reno 10 Pro Plus model in the premium segment
Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus is the brand’s first ‘Reno Pro Plus’ handset to be launched in India. Most importantly, this is the first proper Oppo-branded flagship smartphone in the country since the Oppo Reno 10X Zoom. Although the phone doesn’t have the latest or greatest hardware, it’s not as expensive as other flagships either.
Please note that the price of Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus in India is Rs 54,999. This price puts it comfortably between the OnePlus 11R and the OnePlus 11. Incidentally, OnePlus is a sub-brand of Oppo, but both operate as independent companies in India. However, looking at the mainstream portfolio of brands together, it is possible to get a complete picture. Both brands’ flagship devices start at Rs 18,000 and go up to Rs 62,000. So, customers will get a OnePlus or Oppo option in every price segment.
Let’s get back to the topic of Reno 10 Pro Plus. This phone can be called a better option than OnePlus 11R. So if someone’s budget is less than Rs 60,000 and they are not interested in buying OnePlus 11 for some reason, then this will be a very good option. Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus is a lifestyle smartphone and has a slim and light design for user convenience. The Reno 10 Pro Plus also comes with excellent cameras and the much-needed fast charging support. But in terms of price, the Reno 10 Pro Plus is more affordable than the flagships of India’s leading brands like Vivo, Xiaomi, Samsung and Apple.
For more than nine years, the Oppo brand has been present in India. But it is yet to add its name to the premium category. On the other hand, sister-brand OnePlus has been present in this segment for a long time. But with the Reno 10 Pro Plus, Oppo has taken a strategic approach to enter this segment as well. This phone is clearly an alternative to the OnePlus 11. Although both the phones cost almost the same, they differ from each other in several aspects. Some premium features like the Periscope camera are only available on the Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus at this price, which makes it stand out from other companies’ expensive flagships.
Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus key features excellence
Like its predecessor models, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus is marketed as a ‘Portrait Expert’. It has a 3x periscope camera. The zoom lens uses a 64-megapixel Omnivision OV64B sensor. It has managed to create very good portrait algorithms. As a result, users will get excellent ‘portrait shots’ with the option to change the aperture if needed after taking the picture. This 3x periscope camera also supports up to 120x digital zoom. Notably, interesting details are possible even at 20x if there is enough light. The camera setup of the Reno 10 Pro Plus includes a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary camera and an 8-megapixel IMX355 ultra-wide camera along with a periscope lens. And the front of the phone uses a 32-megapixel Sony IMX709 sensor, which can perform well in low light.
The Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, which is a year old and offers decent performance. Also, it has a 1.5K (1.5K) display which is sharper than the regular 1080 panel. If the user uses the appropriate color profile, the curved screen is able to display realistic colors. It even supports HDR photo display in gallery. Finally, the Reno 10 Pro Plus’s 100% charging support allows the device’s battery to be fully charged in around 30 minutes or less. If you are in a hurry, it is possible to charge the phone for a long time with just a few minutes of charge.
However, despite the excellent specifications, like any other product, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus is not perfect at all. As such its vibration motor is not as powerful as the more expensive Find X series. For some reason, the device does not support video recording from ultra-wide and periscope cameras. The shutter speed is not fast enough, the shutter speed gets worse when the environment gets dark.
Besides, the phone has advanced dual stereo speakers, with the earpiece acting as a secondary unit. But the speakers have to turn up the volume a lot to play loud enough. The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset inside the Reno 10 Pro Plus is not properly tuned. Also, the phone’s battery can only last a day or less, especially when using 5G connectivity. But hopefully, some of the mentioned issues can be easily fixed with a software update.
