OnePlus has started preparations to launch the OnePlus Open 2 handset as its next foldable smartphone. Powered by the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, the phone is rumored to make its debut in the first quarter of next year.
OnePlus' first folding smartphone, the OnePlus Open, was launched last year with a high-resolution cover display and Hasselblad-branded triple rear cameras. The company is said to have already started working on the OnePlus Open 2 model as the successor to this foldable. Ahead of any official announcement, some important information about the upcoming launch of the OnePlus foldable has surfaced courtesy of a tipster. The upcoming OnePlus Open 2 will run on the unannounced Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 flagship processor and is believed to be a rebranded version of the Oppo Find N5 phone.

The tipster from the well-known tipster digital chat station has claimed in a Weibo (Chinese microblogging site) post that the OnePlus Open 2 phone will be launched in the first quarter of next year. It is said to run on Qualcomm's next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. Qualcomm is expected to unveil this processor in October this year.
The successor model to the OnePlus Open is said to feature an improved hinge to reduce weight, an “ultra-flat” internal screen, a high-resolution cover display and a slim design. It could retain the OnePlus Open's Periscope camera and likely have a slimmer build. The OnePlus Open 2 phone is expected to debut as the rebranded Oppo Find N5. Its predecessor was a rebadged version of the Find N3 Foldable.
Note that the OnePlus Open was launched in India last October, priced at Rs 1,39,999 only for the 16GB RAM + 512GB storage model. It has a 7.82-inch (2,268×2,440 pixels) 2K Flexi-Fluid LTPO 3.0 AMOLED (LTPO 3.0 AMOLED) inner display and a 6.31-inch 2K (1,116×2,484 pixels) LTPO 3.0 Super Fluid AMOLED. For photography, the OnePlus Open offers a Hasselblad-branded triple rear camera setup, which includes a 48-megapixel primary camera. Also, it sports a 20-megapixel primary selfie camera and a 32-megapixel secondary front camera. For power backup, the OnePlus Open comes with a powerful 4,800mAh battery, which supports 67W SuperVOOC charging.
