Never mind the DSLR, the Vivo X100 Pro+ comes with a 200-megapixel periscope camera lens

Vivo is gearing up to launch a ‘camera focused’ smartphone series in the first half of November this year. The name of this series is Vivo X100. Under which a total of three models are said to debut, namely – Vivo X100, X100 Pro, and X100 Pro+. The company plans to offer a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera on the Vivo X100 Pro+ smartphone, the highest of the mentioned trio. After all, a popular leakster has claimed on Chinese microblogging site Weibo that the periscope lens used in the handset in question will be a custom-made sensor.

The Vivo X100 Pro+ smartphone will be launched with a custom-made 200-megapixel periscope camera

Information about the possible camera configuration of the Vivo X100 Pro+ smartphone has surfaced courtesy of reputed tipster Digital Chat Station. According to one of his recent Weibo posts, the 200-megapixel periscope camera used in this upcoming model under the Vivo branding has gone through multiple customizations. On top of that, this lens is capable of surpassing the optical performance scores of Sony-branded sensors like the IMX890 and IMX890. The post also mentions that the 200-megapixel camera sensor has been named ‘Samsung HPV’.

According to the tipster, the 200-megapixel periscope camera will be based on Samsung HP3 technology. It will be 1/1.4-inch in size and will support native 3x or 5x optical zoom capacity. The tipster also said that the advanced AI algorithm used in this camera will allow users to enjoy a 10x optical zoom experience.

Meanwhile, according to earlier reports, both the Vivo X100 and X100 Pro models may be powered by the MediaTek Dimension 9300 chipset. Although the flagship processor in question is yet to be launched, it could make its debut in October or November this year. And the top-end Vivo X100 Pro+ smartphone is expected to feature Qualcomm’s upcoming processor Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. While the standard and higher models of the series will be launched in November, the Vivo X100 Pro+ smartphone may be announced in the first quarter of 2024. Note that last year the predecessor Vivo X90 Pro+ was made available only in the Chinese market. So we are not sure whether the successor Vivo X100 Pro+ will make its global debut.
