Huawei Pocket 2: Huawei launched the world’s first quad camera flip phone

Chinese tech giant Huawei today launched its much-anticipated flip-fold phone, the Huawei Pocket 2. It comes with some high-end specifications along with improved folding design. It will have OLED panel, Kirin 9000S processor, 50 megapixel primary camera and 4,520 mAh capacity battery. So let’s get to know the design, specifications, price and availability of Huawei Pocket 2 in detail.

Design of Huawei Pocket 2

At a glance, the Huawei Pocket 2 looks similar to its predecessor, the Pocket S. It has a clamshell folding design, equipped with horizontal hinges. The company has also retained dual circular modules for the rear camera and circular cover display on the back panel of this handset. For durability, Huawei has used new hinges made with aerospace grade “rocket steel” material and second-generation Kunlun Glass technology. The device is only 7.25 mm (7.35 mm for the leather variant) slim when unfolded and weighs around 200 grams. Also, Huawei Pocket 2 comes with IPX8 water resistance rating.

Huawei Pocket 2 Specifications

The Huawei Pocket 2 uses a 6.94-inch LTPO OLED panel as the primary display, with a resolution of 2,690 x 1,136, 2,200 nits peak brightness, 420 ppi pixel density, 1 to 120 Hz variable refresh rate, 1 , offers 440 Hz PWM dimming, 300 Hz touch sampling rate and 21:9 aspect ratio. The rear panel of the device has a 1.15-inch OLED cover screen, which supports 296 ppi pixel density and 360 x 360 resolution.

In terms of performance, the Huawei Pocket 2 is powered by the Kirin 9000S processor, coupled with 12GB RAM and 256GB/512GB/1TB storage options. For power backup, the Huawei Pocket 2 uses a 4,520mAh battery, which supports 66W wired fast charging, 40W wireless fast charging and 7.5W wireless reverse charging. The Huawei Pocket 2 runs the company’s own HarmonyOS 4.0 custom skin.

For photography, the Huawei Pocket 2 features an XMAGE quad camera setup on the back panel, comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor with OIS, and a 3x Comprised of optical zoom and 2 megapixel AI hyperspectral camera. A 10.7-megapixel sensor is present on the front of the phone for selfies and video calls.

Other notable features of Huawei Pocket 2 include dual band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.2, USB Type-C port and NFC support. As a new addition Pocket 2 supports two-way satellite communication. It also has a UV sunscreen test mode to check if the sunscreen has been applied correctly. This special feature uses the camera and cover display to help the user apply sunscreen correctly to avoid damage to the user’s skin from the sun’s UV rays.

Huawei Pocket 2 Price and Availability

Huawei Pocket 2 will be available in Chinese market in multiple color options. These are – Tahitian Grey, Rococo White, Taro Purple and Elegant Black. Of these, the last two offer a leather-back instead of a glass-back. The base 256GB model of the latest flip phone is priced at 7,499 Yuan (approx. Rs. 88,015), while the higher-end 512GB and 1TB storage variant is priced at 7,999 Yuan (approx. Rs. 93,900) and 8,999 Yuan (approx. 1,05,625).

Besides, there is also a special Art Custom Edition of Huawei Pocket 2, which is priced at 10,999 Yuan (roughly Rs. 1,29,100). This version comes with a novel design, with a flat texture that looks three-dimensional (3D). Art Custom Edition is available only in 16 GB RAM + 1 TB storage option. The pre-order process for Huawei Pocket 2 has started today and the device will be available for sale from March 1. However, it is not known for sure whether Huawei Pocket 2 will enter the global market.
