Google unveiled the Google Pixel 8 series in October last year. The US company plans to start production of the flagship series in the Indian market this year. Now a new report claims that Google has ordered component suppliers to start production of the Pixel 8 smartphone in India from the next quarter of this year. It is believed that the production may start at the beginning of the second quarter, i.e. in the month of April.

Google is going to setup multiple production units of Pixel 8 in India

A report in Nikkei Asia claims that Google is reportedly setting up a production facility in the southern part of the country. The ‘Made in India’ Pixel 8 Pro units are expected to go on sale in India sometime between April and June. After that, the company will set up another production unit in the northern part of the country to manufacture the standard Google Pixel 8.

It is rumored that Google has been trying to decentralize its supply chain from China. The company started making Pixel smartphones in Vietnam a few years ago, amid rising tensions between the US and China. By setting up manufacturing units in India, Google can reduce its dependence on Chinese manufacturing units. Already, leading Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) such as Apple, Samsung and others have Indian manufacturing units.

Let it be known that behind the move of Google to start production of Pixel smartphones in India, there is a special effort of the Indian government. To make the country a technology production powerhouse, the government is offering various incentives to companies. This will make Google a strong position in the country as a manufacturer.

Notably, Google had announced plans to manufacture Pixel smartphones at the Google for India event in India last year and suggested that ‘Made in India’ Pixel handsets would hit the market by 2024. Google has set a target of delivering 10 million or more than 1 crore Pixel smartphones this year and setting up a production unit in India could help the company achieve this target. The brand managed to sell around 10 million Google Pixel handsets last year.
