Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro production has started in India, giving a thumbs up to China

Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro to be manufactured locally, Google's cheapest smartphone in India

In February this year, Google announced that it has decided to move its supply chain and production facilities from China. In this regard, the tech giant also said at the time that it is busy building an alternative manufacturing plant in South Asia. Now there are reports that Google has chosen China's neighboring country India to run their production operations. Sundar Pichai's company has joined hands with Dixon Technologies for this. It is also reported that the first Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel 8 Pro phones will be manufactured in the country under this partnership.

The 'Made in India' Google Pixel 8 series will be launched soon

Last year, Google announced that they will start developing the Pixel 8 series of phones locally in India in 2024 A recent report proves that the tech giant is adamant about this decision. As claimed, Google has already started production of 'Made in India' Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones in the country. In this regard, these two handsets, which will debut on October 4, 2023, are currently being developed in partnership with Dixon Technologies.

Trial production of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones has begun under the supervision of Dixon Technologies. The first batch of the 'Made in India' version of the devices is expected to be launched in the country by September. According to reports, this electronics device production company aims to manufacture 1,00,000 units per month, to export 25-30% of make-in-India devices throughout the year.

The report also states that the Pixel phones will be manufactured in India under Padget Electronics, a subsidiary of Dixon Technologies. The company also recently signed a deal with Taiwan-based global manufacturing partner Compal Electronics to help manage the manufacturing of Google products.

Google's decision to manufacture smartphones locally in India is believed to be influenced by the 'Production-Linked Incentive' (PLI) scheme announced by the central government. In this regard, besides this tech giant, several well-known smartphone brands have already become part of the 'Made in India' initiative. The Government of India launched the PLI scheme to develop a unique manufacturing eco-system on the country's soil.
