Apple’s surprise for cheap iPhone 12 users, will now get this special benefit

Good news! A four-year-old Apple phone received support for the Qi2 wireless charging standard. We are talking about the iPhone 12 model that debuted in 2020. The tech giant has released iOS 17.4 update in half for this handset. Where this advanced charging technology support is being offered for the device. Please note, this update has been released in compliance with the new ‘Digital Markets Act’ (DMA) regulatory policy announced by the European Union (UE).

Macworld (Macworld) reported in their report, iPhone 12 models running iOS 17.4 operating system now support wireless charging at 15 watts using Qi2 charger. However, this adapter is not the company’s MagSafe charger. But in terms of performance both chargers performance and charging time are almost same. In this case, charging with both MagSafe and Qi2 chargers charged the iPhone 12 model’s battery to 30 percent in about 20 minutes, and it took 45 to 50 minutes to reach 50 percent.

The report also states that when the device is connected to a Qi2 charger, an animation that says ’15 watts only charging’ is now displayed. However, there is no mention of this feature in the official release notes published by Apple.

Many of you may not know about Qi2 technology. Notably, this is the latest wireless charging standard, which comes with more advanced wireless power transfer and durable magnetic alignment. Its functionality has several similarities with Apple’s MagSafe charging technology.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 12 previously offered only 7.5W charging speed via non-MagSafe Qi wireless chargers. But after the new update, the device supports twice the wireless charging speed with Qi2 wireless charger and non-MagSafe Qi2 wireless charger.

The tech giant also offered a similar charging upgrade for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models in December last year with the iOS 17.2 software update. And now their predecessors have been added to this list.
