25 percent of iPhones will be made in India by 2028, says Prime Minister Modi

PM Modi Speaks: In recent years, India has become one of the largest smartphone markets in the world – both sales and manufacturing of mobile handsets are growing at an equal pace. But not just ordinary Android smartphones, the production of Apple iPhones has also increased in the country – recently the global tech giant doubled its iPhone production in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, hailed this improvement in local manufacturing. He also spoke about the pride that India has now emerged as the second largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world.

iPhone production in India increased thanks to PLI scheme

In an interview to NDTV in Halfil, Prime Minister Modi said that one in seven iPhones in the world is now manufactured in India. Even high-value Apple products are being exported from the country at a record rate, which indicates the success of the Centre's PLI or Production Linked Incentive scheme, according to him. Not only that, Modi ji is sure that India will be able to generate around 25 percent of the global iPhone production by 2028.

In fact, Apple, the maker of the iPhone, is now focused on strengthening its business ecosystem by reducing its reliance on China and building a network with local vendors in India. That is why the situation is changing, various improvements are being noticed in the country. Apple also posted double-digit gains from here in the first quarter of this year – seeing a 19% year-over-year growth in shipments.
