Off-road SUV Maruti Suzuki Jimny is going to be officially launched in the Indian market on June 7. Jimny will take the greatness of Maruti’s iconic Gypsy model in a new direction. The car’s main competitor in India is the Mahindra Thar. The plus points of the Mahindra Thar that have been around for years are its road presence and mercurial design. It is accompanied by a powerful engine. However, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny will come with several attractive features that the Mahindra Thar is missing. Let’s take a look at what they are.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny vs Mahindra Thar
LED projector headlamps
Maruti Suzuki has used LED projector headlamps in its much awaited SUV. It will even have LED foglamps. The Jimny is the first SUV in the lifestyle segment to feature such LED lights. The old halogen headlights are still present in the Mahindra Thor.
Headlight washer
Another best feature of Maruti Suzuki Jimny is the headlight washer. A sprayer attached to the headlight itself will allow you to wash the entire headlight surface as needed. Such features are usually available in premium models. As a result, the dust, dirt or mud accumulated near the top of the headlight while driving can be cleaned and the brightness of the light can be maintained.
Additional safety features
The Thar is one of the safest SUVs in India with a 4-star rating by Global NCap. However, only two airbags are used. Compared to that, Maruti Suzuki Jimny is much ahead. Because it has a total of six air bags as standard. Apart from this, Maruti will offer several other safety features including ABS with EBD, Hill Descent Control, Hill Haul Assist.
Rear wiper with washer
Maruti Suzuki has also used wipers along with washers on the rear window of its five-door Jimny. Which is quite a necessary feature to see the view in every direction.
Separate door for rear passengers
The biggest change between Mahindra Thar and Maruti Suzuki Jimny is the two extra doors. The Mahindra Thar has only three doors, so getting in and out of the rear seat passengers is quite difficult. Maruti has taken this matter seriously. Getting in and out of the cabin is very easy as this car has five doors.
Rolling window for rear
Another major issue with the Mahindra Thar is the closed rear window. This can lead to suffocating conditions for passengers sitting in the back during long journeys. That’s why the Jimny’s rear door windows can be raised and lowered just like other cars.
Large wheelbase
Although slightly smaller than the Mahindra Thar, the Jimny is built on a larger wheelbase. This will allow passengers to sit comfortably in the car as well as additional luggage in the rear boot area.
Large boot space
A large sized suitcase and other essential bags can be easily stored in the rear of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. The boot space of the Mahindra Thar is quite small in comparison. To be specific, Jimny’s boot volume is more than 200 liters when the two rear seats are open. We see such a large boot space in any normal hatchback car. And if the rear seats of the car are closed, the boot space will increase to 332 liters. The booth space of Mahindra Thar is not exactly known, but it is definitely less than 200 liters.
Nine inch touchscreen
Apart from all this, Maruti Suzuki has maintained all these benefits in this off-road special car with 9-inch touch screen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto. On the other hand, the Mahindra Thare has a 7-inch infotainment system with a smartphone connectivity feature.
Automatic climate control
Mahindra has yet to include the automatic climate control feature in this car. We will see this automatic climate control as a very necessary feature in the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny in June.
