It has been rumored for about two years or so now that SpaceX, Elon Musk’s aerospace company, will launch its affordable satellite-based Starlink internet service in India. But even though various news about this have been circulating in the net world, so far there has been no official confirmation. Speculation remains in the whale that was in the whale. In that case, there is a new ray of hope about Starlink services again this season.
In fact, Elon Musk will come to India at the end of this month – and that’s why the question is, will the billionaire bring satellite internet service to the country with him?
Starlink finally coming to India after continuous efforts?
Starlink, an Internet service by Elon Musk and SpaceX that provides access to the web in remote and inaccessible areas of the world. Currently they also have about 92 crore broadband customers. After several failed attempts over a long period of time, Starlink is ready to launch satellite broadband services in India, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
According to them, the company may soon clear all the hurdles and get the required license.
Notably, the Modi government had passed the ‘Telecommunications Bill 2023’ in December last year, which would allocate spectrum for satellite-based services without participating in the auction. And the move has cleared the way for companies like OneWeb, Musk’s Starlink and Amazon Kuiper to operate in the country. This will have a triple benefit – companies will finally be able to operate in India, people in different parts of India will be able to enjoy satellite internet services at low cost and at the same time the country’s digital economy will grow at a significant rate.
Experts believe that the potential arrival of the much-awaited Starlink, in particular, could be a factor in India’s prosperity. Supposedly, its users can get download speeds of up to 220 Mbps – at least over 100 Mbps. However, the cost of Starlink services in India is not yet known. However, a basic Starlink Wi-Fi unlimited internet subscription in rural areas of the US costs $120 per month.
